Happy Holidays!
New Year, New Things, New Challenges!

The year 2014 is almost over.  What a year and journey it has been for the students and instructors at the academy!  Students celebrate their achievements and the instructors thrive to grow the quality of the programs and the training. We have exciting and new upcoming programs and activities.

·  For Orange belts and up, there is a mandatory sparring clinic offered at two times.  Only attend one – Jan 9th (Fri) at 6:30 pm or Jan 10th (Sat) at
9 am. Bring your sparring gear (required for belt testing).

·  WEAPONS class – yes!  Kama and Tactical Short Stick weapons training will start in January. Classes are free this cycle.  Class costs will be included in the Ultimate monthly membership in the future. Class requires at least 8 students to make. Must be at least 8 years old to attend.

·  Registration is now open for the Summer Camp (June 8-13) and Rank Skip Camp (Aug 17-22), a week of fun and learning. The Rank Skip Camp is available for all belts up to Brown. You will learn the next level skills and have an opportunity to test.

·  Life skill achievement award for belts are here! Students have an opportunity to take a form to their teacher and set a goal. The teacher completes it stating that the student is following the black belt principles based on the Taekwondo tenets in daily school activities) – Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit.

·  YOU can be part of our DEMO team. It’s prestigious, it’s special, it’s fun! You will do demos at school or other events. A great way of gaining confidence is to perform in front of others. There is no extra cost, just initiative! If you are interested, let us know.

Notes from Mrs. K.

Proper hygiene

Where does the term ‘martial’ as in martial arts come from? The term martial is related to the military because martial arts were originally developed for a warrior. It has evolved into a variety of uses – art form, competition, and so on. Think about how a soldier or warrior is expected to dress - clean uniforms, pressed, wrinkle-free.

Even if you do not want to impress the military lifestyle on your child, think about social impressions. Judgments are made based on first impressions, fair or not. Teaching the children that they should expect to wear clean, pressed clothing prepares them for the business world.

Also, because Taekwondo is a contact sport, it’s very important to keep the uniform clean.

Recommended cleaning techniques – wash uniform top, hang dry, press.
